Toby Melville-Brown – The Art of Ping Pong

Toby Melville-Brown and The Art of Ping Pong have collaborated in celebration of the new NikeCourt x Roger Federer collection. Toby illustrated 60 bats displayed in NikeLab 1948. Roger Federer even attended the hugely successful event.

Created in the space of 8 days, the 60 paddles were a canvas, detailing the tennis champion’s  career and interests. Inspired by his rigour on and off the court, Toby applied his intricate illustrative approach, touching on Federer’s background, professional career and cultural interests. The result was an insightful installation, for the launch of a new off court clothing range, aptly covered by GQ.

Toby said, “it was a pretty mad process; researching the superstar, applying my detailed approach to so many bats, then meeting the man and discussing the drawings – all in such a short space of time!”

The bats have now been taken down and photographed in readiness for charity auctions. Half of them will be sold by the Roger Federer Foundation, the other half, by The Art of Ping Pong.
